Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
412 AM EDT Fri Jun 20 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
Drier weather is expected today and into the weekend, with heat and
humidity increasing by Sunday and into next week. The heat wave will
last through the middle of next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Northwest flow aloft with a weak embedded short wave resulting in
isolated showers. These showers are over the lower Scioto Valley and
will exit the area prior to sunrise.
Otherwise, surface high pressure will offer drier conditions today.
Expect a few to scattered cumulus clouds with some high level debris
clouds spilling into the area from an upstream thunderstorm complex.
Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s. Light and variable
winds will become west to southwesterly at 10 to 15 mph.
&&
.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...
Another weak embedded mid level shortwave passes thru the area late
in the day into this evening. Expect mid and high level clouds this
evening to thin out overnight. Mild overnight lows generally in the
mid and upper 60s.
Mid level ridge begins to build into the area Saturday. This will
offer height rises with warmer temperatures. Expect highs to range
from the upper 80s to the lower 90s. As heat and humidity begin to
increase heat indices will also increase with max values of 95 to 100
degrees. A few locations may approach the advisory threshold of 100
degrees.
&&
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A strong signal continues to be in place for a significant warming
trend through the extended period as a robust 500H ridge builds in,
with the center of the dome somewhere near the Tennessee Valley
region. Similarly, an area of surface high pressure will exist along
the Atlantic Coast, keeping the ILN CWA on the western side of the
high. This results in continued southerly low level flow, keeping
that channel of warm, moist Gulf air flowing into the region.
Temperatures will slowly rise throughout the week, starting Sunday,
with Heat Advisory criteria being introduced as early as Sunday with
the majority of the CWA reaching heat indices over 100F.
Temperatures continue to rise; Monday and Tuesday look to be the
hottest days of the week, with heat indices over 105 for most areas
south of I-70, which will reach Warning criteria. Overnight lows
will offer little relief, only falling to the mid 70s.
As such, an Extreme Heat Watch has been hoisted for the entire
region. For now, the Watch goes through Tuesday evening, but may
need to be extended in time. As we get further out in time, the
blend keeps Tds in the mid 70s, which might be a tad high. This will
be something to keep an eye on as we get closer.
Unfortunately, we`re in for an uncomfortable stretch. Remember, that
the longer excessive heat remains over the region, the more its
impacts are compounded.
Some relief might be on the horizon as we near the end of the
working week and weak shortwave disturbances begin to move through
the larger flow. These slowly begin to re-introduce PoPs into the
grids, though timing/placement is still ambiguous.
&&
.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Northwest flow aloft with a weak embedded disturbance leading to
isold showers which are moving se across the central portion of
ILN/s FA.
Otherwise, skies will trend clearer progressively from NW to SE
overnight. This will set the stage for some river valley fog
at KLUK in the several hours around daybreak. Otherwise, additional
FEW/SCT Cu will develop after 15Z as some mid/high level clouds
spill in from the NW past 18Z.
Light SW winds will become light and variable through daybreak
before increasing from the WSW at 8-10kts by the afternoon.
OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
